Paul Robinson has claimed playing behind closed doors has worked in Joelinton's favour as the Newcastle United striker scored his first goal at St. James' Park on Sunday.

The former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested playing at home prior to the break became "a weight on the shoulders" of the 23-year-old given his previous struggles in front of goal.

The Brazilian lead the line once again for Steve Bruce as the Magpies returned to Premier League action with an impressive 3-0 victory against Sheffield United.

The sensational Allan Saint-Maximin opened the scoring for the hosts and Matt Ritchie doubled their advantage just after the hour mark.

Joelinton added a third just moments before he was replaced by Andy Carroll and his relief was clear to the eye.

When asked by Football Insider if playing without fans helped the centre-forward, Robinson said: "It could be a big advantage for him.

"There can be an expectation when you play at home and if things don't go well it can become a weight on your shoulders and a burden.

"Football fans are more educated now than they have ever been and they can see when things are not right.

"The pressure may have been getting to him before the break.

"But he has got his goal in what is almost the start of a new season. It is now up to him to kick on."

Joelinton's 35 appearances this season have yielded four goals and four assists.

The striker has faced much criticism for his form in front of goal following his club-record transfer from Hoffenheim.
