Peterborough United are in talks to sign Rochdale central midfielder Callum Camps, Football Insider understands.

Peterborough have been busy in this summer’s transfer window, but manager Darren Ferguson is not finished in adding to his squad and has lined up a deal for Camps.

A Posh source has told Football Insider the club have opened negotiations to land Camps, 23, and are hopeful of getting him before the window shuts.

Ferguson is keen to build a side capable of challenging for promotion next season and he sees Camps as a vital addition to his plans.

The midfielder is highly rated in the Football League after coming through the ranks at Rochdale and he has made over 200 first-team appearances for the club.

The Northern Ireland youth international is entering the final year of his contract at Rochdale, which runs until the summer of 2020.

Peterborough have been alerted to his potential availability and ready to test their League One rivals’ resolve to hang onto him during this summer’s transfer window.
