Kevin Phillips has questioned Jean-Kevin Augustin’s lifestyle after Phil Hay revealed the Leeds United striker has suffered a fresh injury blow.

The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the latest injury will be “a concern” for Marcelo Bielsa and his medical staff.

Phil Hay claimed that the January arrival from RB Leipzig has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring strain which has kept him sidelined for most of his Leeds career to date.

The postponement of the season amid the coronavirus pandemic appeared to have given Augustin a second chance but he is now unlikely to be fit for the trip to Cardiff on 21 June.

Phillips insisted the medical staff will be looking closely for answers.

“You have to question all sorts of things,” he told Football Insider.

“What is the player’s lifestyle like? Is he eating properly? What is he doing away from the training ground? And they will ask these questions.

“The sports science team will look at the training methods and see if anything has changed that is not helping him.

“Ultimately, another injury which is a concern for Marcelo Bielsa and his medical staff. It is another blow for them.”

Augustin is yet to start since his loan move in January and has just three substitute appearances to his name.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side travel to Cardiff City a week on Sunday as they look to further strengthen their grip on the automatic promotion spots.
