Aston Villa have submitted a new bid of £15million for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, Football Insider can reveal.

The Midlands giants have made attempts to sign Phillips all summer, and have returned to the negotiating table in the last week for the 23-year-old.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club have rejected the latest offer from Villa and intend to keep hold of their prize asset up until the window shuts next Thursday.

The mammoth bid comes at a time when Villa have been the most active Premier League club in this summer's transfer market, taking their signings up to 11 with the £8million capture of Tom Heaton from Burnley yesterday.

But Dean Smith's side are still in the market for new talent even though they are on the verge of adding a second midfield anchorman in Marvelous Nakamba to the signing last week of Douglas Luiz from Manchester City.

Phillips has been on Villa's radar all summer after an outstanding 2018-19 season in which he was one of the best players outside of the top flight.

He has rejected Leeds' offer of a new contract this summer as he seeks a deal with his boyhood club that he believes reflect his new status.

Phillips, who is expected to start their Championship opener away to Bristol City on Sunday, has two years remaining on his United contract.
