Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers have opened preliminary talks with Everton over signing Anthony Gordon this month, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Championship duo are both looking to add greater creativity to their sides ahead of next Monday’s transfer cut-off.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that early discussions are underway with Everton to take Gordon, 19, on loan for the rest of the season.
This comes at a time when he has slipped down the pecking order in Carlo Ancelotti’s high-flying side.
The highly-rated youngster, tipped as a potential Premier League star of the future, has made seven appearances for Everton this season.
But four of those have come in the domestic cups and just three in the Premier League.
Gordon made his only league start of the season on the left wing in the Boxing Day win over Sheffield United when the likes of Richarlison and James Rodriguez were unavailable.
But he has been an unused substitute for the last three Premier League matches when more of the senior stars returned.
Gordon has appeared in Everton’s two FA Cup fixtures, including a 14-minute run-out as a sub in last weekend’s 3-0 win against Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
He has now made 20 senior Everton appearances since graduating from their academy ranks.
The teenager, who has been capped by England at Under-20, Under-19 and Under-18 levels, has supplied five assists in those games and given fans hope he can establish himself as a senior star.
In other news, a £9million Everton transfer update could be “massive”.
