Preston North End are in advanced talks to sign Fleetwood Town striker Ched Evans, Football Insider can reveal.

Evans has been told he can find a new club by manager Joey Barton after multiple "discretions".

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the two clubs are negotiating a loan deal worth £3,000-a-week.

Barton told the Blackpool Gazette last week the 32-year-old is no longer available for selection because of disciplinary issues.

The Daily Mail report Barton took offence at a joke made by the striker in the dressing room at the expense of Barton.

Evans had scored seven goals in 23 appearances this season for the fishermen and even captained the side on occasion before being drastically dropped earlier this month.

Since his arrival on the Fylde coast in July 2018, the Welshman has found the net 37 times in 99 games.

He would offer considerable firepower for a North End side who are in 11th place in the Championship and chasing a play-off spot.

Alex Neil's current striker options of Jayden Stockley, Emil Riis and Sean Maguire have all struggled in front of goal this term.

Instead, the Lilywhites have been reliant on former Celtic winger Scott Sinclair who has scored seven league goals this campaign.

Meanwhile, Maguire, Stockley and Riis have scored a combined seven goals with Stockley boasting a miserly six per cent shot conversion rate.
