Preston North End midfielder Josh Harrop is in advanced talks to sign a new long-term contract at the club, Football Insider understands.
The 24-year-old is into the final year of his current terms after he penned a four-year deal when he joined on a free transfer back in 2017.
A source at Deepdale has told Football Insider that manager Alex Neil wants to tie the former Manchester United youngster to a new long-term deal and that negotiations are close to reaching a positive conclusion.
The club have already tied down a number of first-team talents to new deals this month as Neil looks to keep the nucleus of his squad together.
Veteran midfielder Paul Gallagher has put pen to paper on a one-year deal as he closes in on 300 games for Preston.
Meanwhile, both Sean Maguire and Ryan Ledsom have signed two-year extensions to keep them tied down to the club until at least 2023.
Harrop joined Preston three years ago after he left the Manchester United youth system and has gone on to establish himself as an important member of the senior side.
He played 36 times across all competitions last season, with eight goals and two assists to his name.
The Stockport-born talent has a total of 86 games under his belt for Preston and has also featured three times for England’s under-20s.
Preston are yet to make any new signings this summer after they finished ninth in the Championship last season.
However, Neil has let Connor Simpson, Tom Clarke, Jack Armer and Michael Crowe leave the club on free transfers.
In other Preston North End news, it can be revealed a rival is in talks to sign a £5million Sheffield United star.
