Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has agreed a deal to join Scunthorpe on loan and the move is expected to be completed tomorrow (Wednesday), Football Insider sources understands.
Alnwick has found himself third-choice goalkeeper at Rangers this season behind Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham.
Foderingham was expected to leave Rangers this summer following the arrival of McGregor as the club’s new No.1, but he is set to stay and fight for the goalkeeper’s jersey at Ibrox.
This leaves the way clear for Alnwick to go out on loan, and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the senior man has been given permission by Steven Gerrard to leave and become new Scunthorpe boss Stuart McCall’s first signing since replacing Nick Daws at Glanford Park earlier this week.
The 25-year-old is happy to move out on loan in search of regular first-team football and a number of clubs have expressed an interest in taking the former Newcastle United youngster.
Alnwick joined Rangers from Port Vale in January 2017 as back-up to Foderingham and he has made only 11 appearances since his arrival at the club.
In other Rangers news, Football Insider can reveal the Glasgow giants are pulling out all the stops to land a 6ft 3in colossus after a £10million bid was rejected.
