RB Leipzig are plotting a swoop for Tammy Abraham after watching him in action for Aston Villa last weekend, Football Insider understands.
Abraham has emerged on RB Leipzig’s radar as German clubs look to continue their recent trend of trying to lure the best young talent away from English football.
Leipzig fear they could lose star striker Timo Werner this summer and a source at the club has told Football Insider that Abraham is on a list of potential replacements and they are preparing a move to test his parent club Chelsea’s resolve to hang onto their youth product.
Leipzig scouts were in attendance during Villa’s game at Blackburn to see Abraham scored his 22nd goal of the season in just 32 appearances and they have been impressed by the striker’s displays this season.
The 21-year-old joined Villa on a season-long loan last summer from Chelsea and he has been instrumental in the club’s push for promotion to the Premier League.
Wolves came close to signing Abraham on a permanent deal during the January transfer window, but the powerful forward decided to stay on loan at Villa.
The England international still has three years to run on his contract at Chelsea and he could be handed a more prominent role in the Chelsea side next season if they fail to have their transfer ban lifted this summer.
