Exclusive: Paul Robinson in awe of West Brom player amid Spurs reported transfer mission
Paul Robinson heaped praise on West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson amid speculation that Tottenham want to sign him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Spurs goalkeeper revealed he thought Ferguson was a very good right-back.
It was recently reported that Spurs sent top-scout Brian Carey to watch Ferguson play for West Brom against Preston on Monday, with them determined not to miss out on his services.
Robinson explained that Jose Mourinho will likely be looking for a new right-back in January as Serge Aurier and Davinson Sanchez have both been exposed when playing in that position.
When asked if it would be a bold signing by Spurs to sign Nathan Ferguson in January given his age, Robinson told Football Insider: “He is consistently playing in the Championship, I think he is a very very good right-back.
“And right-back is an area I’ve spoken about before where we do struggle, defensively we have been exposed at right-back.
“Sanchez and Aurier together…any chances we have conceded have come down the right, the opposition’s left, so I think right-back will be a position Mourinho looks to strengthen in January.
“Who that is…we don’t know as there will be a lot of speculation, but the player at West Brom is a very good player.”
Ferguson has played 16 times for West Brom this season but may be available for Spurs to snap up for cheaply in the summer due to his contract expiring.
It was previously claimed that the Baggies may consider selling the 19-year-old right-back in January in order to get a decent price for his services.
