Exclusive: Robinson suggests Tottenham player exit-bound despite confusing Mourinho decision

Paul Robinson suggested that Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is on course to exit the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs keeper said if there was a new contract in the works for Eriksen, then it would have been heard about by now.

The Danish playmaker’s current contract is due to expire at the end of the season and Jose Mourinho recently hinted he knew what Eriksen had decided about his future.

Robinson suggested that with Mourinho being coy and nothing being announced it likely means Eriksen will depart even though the Spurs boss opted to start him against Norwich City.

The ex-Spurs star explained Mourinho’s decision to start the 27-year-old baffled him as not only could he be leaving, but the playmaker hasn’t performed well this season.

When asked if Mourinho suggesting he knows Eriksen’s future means the player is exit-bound as surely the club would be eager to announce a new deal, Robinson told Football Insider: “Yeah if a contract was in the offering, we would have heard of it by now.

“But the fact he started against Norwich, it threw a cat among the pigeons as that was one name I didn’t expect to see on the teamsheet.

“Due to the fact he hasn’t performed and due to the fact it looks like he could be leaving, but then again you don’t know.

“There’s a lot of mind games going on and if anyone can change his mind it’s Jose Mourinho as he can sell him the future of the club.

“But the fact he started against Norwich confused me, but the noises coming out would suggest he is leaving.”

Eriksen has featured 22 times for the North London club this season, scoring three goals and registering three assists in the process.

The playmaker is one game shy of making his 300th appearance for Tottenham, with Jose Mourinho’s side next in action against Southampton.
