Sheffield United are in advanced talks to sign Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury, sources have told Football Insider.

Blades boss Chris Wilder has given the green light to a deal for Choudhury, who he regards as an ideal replacement for long-term injury victim Oliver Arblaster.

The 20-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the Steel City derby match in November and is expected to be sidelined on a long-term basis.

Choudhury, 27, is well down the pecking order at Leicester and the Foxes are willing to let him go this month.

The defensive midfielder has made just one start in the Premier League and Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is open to sanctioning a loan switch for him.

The Blades currently sit third in the Championship table, with Leeds United and Burnley ahead of them.

Sheffield United would offer Hamza Choudhury game time

Choudhury is looking for more regular game time after only featuring in four Premier League matches all season.

The midfielder has only played 130 minutes of football in the English top flight throughout this campaign and has struggled to even make the match-day squad on numerous occasions.

Choudhury does have plenty of experience to offer though, having made 255 appearances throughout his career.

The Blades are aiming to gain promotion from the Championship, which is a league that Choudhury has played in more than any other.

The Foxes star has featured 83 times in the second tier of English football, and that level of experience could be beneficial in Sheffield’s bid for promotion.
