Sheffield United are planning to open new contract talks with defender Enda Stevens, Football Insider can reveal.

The 29-year-old wing-back has been an ever-present for surprise package United in the Premier League this season and he scored in the 2-1 win at Norwich City last weekend.

A Bramall Lane source has told Football Insider that manager Chris Wilder has given the green light for Stevens to be handed an extension to his current deal.

The former Aston Villa man is under contract at United until 2022, but the club are keen to reward him for his continued progress with new and improved terms.

Stevens has established himself as a key member of Chris Wilder's side since joining the club from Portsmouth in the summer of 2017.

The Republic of Ireland international has made 110 appearances for the Blades, more than any other club in his extensive professional career.

He has been instrumental in United's success in winning promotion from the Championship and making an instant impact in the Premier League.

Stevens has played the full 90 minutes in all 16 of their Premier League matches this season.

The left-sided ace is regarded by Wilder as a crucial player in his system and has gained the complete trust of the manager.

Stevens also started 45 of United's 46 league matches last season, scoring four goals and supplying seven assists from his defensive role.
