Paul Robinson has tipped Liverpool to sign Timo Werner this summer despite a report that Ousmane Dembele is being lined up as potential alternative.

The former Spurs and Leeds United shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed there is “very little” RB Leipzig can do to prevent a deal going through this summer if the 24-year-old wants to join the Reds.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Champions League holders will turn their attention to Barcelona’s Dembele, 23, if they cannot agree a deal with the Bundesliga side.

Football Insider understands that Werner’s £53.7million buyout clause is currently a sticking point in a potential deal but there are hopes a reduced fee can be agreed.

Robinson was near enough adamant that a deal would go through in the upcoming transfer window.

“Dembele is a top player but there is no smoke without fire,” he told Football Insider.

“There has been talk of Liverpool and Werner for too long now. I can see that happening and that deal going through.

“If the buying club want it to happen and the player wants to leave, there is often very little that the selling club can do other than try and force their price.

“The talk of this deal has gone on for so long – a lot of noise. I can genuinely see this coming to fruition this summer.”

Werner was on the scoresheet again last night as Leipzig ran out 4-2 winners away to FC Koln.

The second-half strike was his 31st goal of the season in just 41 appearances.
