Exclusive: Smith puts block on Aston Villa first teamer departure after offers from six clubs

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Dean Smith has put the block on Keinan Davis leaving Aston Villa this summer after offers from six Championship clubs, Football Insider can reveal.

QPR, Huddersfield, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City and Preston North End have all tried to sign the forward on loan before the window shuts tomorrow.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that Smith has weighed up whether to allow the attacker to head out for the 2019-20 season and decided he wants to keep hold of him.

Smith is a big admirer of Davis and believes he has a role to play at the club this season despite a massive summer overhaul in the wake of their promotion to the Premier League.

Villa have already splashed out £22million this summer on Brazilian Wesley Moraes, breaking the club’s transfer record, among a blizzard of new arrivals that have taken the club’s summer spend towards the £150million mark.
