Stoke City are closing in on the signing of ex-Queens Park Rangers midfielder Jordan Cousins on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.

Cousins is a free agent after leaving QPR earlier this summer, with his contract due to official expire at the end of the month.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in former England Under-20 international, but a Stoke source has told Football Insider the club have moved quickly to agree a deal for him.

The Championship outfit are in advanced talks to sign the 25-year-old as they look to take advantage of his recent availability.

Cousins joined QPR in 2016 from Charlton and he made 70 appearances during his three years at the west London outfit.

This came after the former England youth international accumulated even greater experience at the newly-promoted Addicks, where he made 136 appearances in all competitions.

Stoke boss Nathan Jones is looking to reshape his squad after a disappointing campaign last term and he sees Cousins who will add versatility to his squad as he can play in midfield as well as defence.
