Kevin Phillips has urged Callum Wilson target to reject a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, the former European golden shoe winner feels Wilson may lose his England squad place if he completes a move to North London.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has made calls to Wilson to lure him as he seeks to add a back-up striker to Harry Kane, as revealed by Football Insider.
Bournemouth are not willing to let the 28-year-old leave on the cheap and have slapped a £30m price tag on Wilson, according to the Daily Mail.
Asked by Football Insider whether Tottenham would stump up the cash for the England international, Phillips said: “You have to. When you’re a team like Tottenham, £20m or £25m is nothing for a striker.
“We see players in the Championship going for that much, for Tottenham that sort of money is irrelevant.
“The big thing for me, if I’m Callum Wilson, it’s about being number one somewhere and playing week in week out.
“If you go to Tottenham you’re just a back-up striker and if Harry Kane stays fit for the season you’re going to get hardly any game time, maybe a couple of cup games.
“That will be an interesting one to see where he ends up, but I’d like to see him go somewhere where he’ll be the number one striker and plays.
“He’s certainly a good player and he’ll want to push for that Euros squad, he’s had a taste of England before.
“If he doesn’t play, he stands no chance whatsoever.”
Wilson scored eight Premier League goals in 35 appearances for the Cherries last season but it wasn’t enough to prevent their relegation.
