Exclusive: Striker undergoing Nottingham Forest medical as Celtic lose out
Celtic are set to miss out on the signing of Lyle Taylor as he undergoes a medical at Nottingham Forest ahead of a free transfer, Football Insider undertands.
The Glasgow giants were linked with a move for the 30-year-old after his controversial departure from Charlton Athletic earlier in the year.
However, a source at the City Ground has told Football Insider that Forest have won the battle for his capture and that he is undergoing the necessary medical tests today (Friday, 14 August) before putting pen to paper on a contract.
The Montserrat international was thrust into the limelight late last season after Charlton boss Lee Bowyer revealed the striker had refused to play following the Championship restart in June.
Taylor explained that he did not want to risk losing out on a significant contract offer if he got injured after his fine form during the 2019/20 campaign.
He scored a total of 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Addicks but did not feature at all for the club’s final nine games as they were relegated to League One on the final day of the season.
Now a free agent, Taylor was linked with a move to Celtic as Neil Lennon looks to bolster his attacking options at Parkhead.
However, it is understood that the hitman is set to remain in the Championship and complete a move to Nottingham Forest over the coming days.
Sabri Lamouchi’s side missed out on a play-off place last season on the final day of the season as Swansea City leapfrogged them on goal difference.
Lewis Grabban netted 20 league goals to finish as Forest’s top scorer, while Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi managed to score nine and five times respectively to round out the top three.
In other Nottingham Forest news, Alex Bruce claims one senior star could be on his way to the Premier League after a big development.
