Sunderland are poised to announce the signing of Morgan Feeney after he completed a medical and signed a contract, Football Insider can reveal.
This site broke the news yesterday that the Black Cats were in advanced talks to land the centre-back, 21, after his Goodison Park exit.
A Sunderland source has told Football Insider that the deal for Feeney is now done barring the formalities of registration.
He has penned a one-year contract and is set to go into the first-team squad ahead of the new season.
The strapping defender is a free agent after Everton opted not to extend his contract following his loan at Tranmere Rovers in the second half of last season.
Sunderland have made a move for Feeney as they look to strengthen at centre-back.
He graduated from the youth ranks at Goodison Park to play twice for the senior side.
He made his Everton first-team bow against Atalanta in the Europa League in 2017 and was handed his full debut in another Europa League tie against Apollon Limassol.
But Feeney was unable to establish himself at that level despite making a big impact as the long-standing captain of David Unsworth’s Under-23s side, for whom he made a remarkable 68 appearances.
The 6ft 3in youngster had hoped to ignite his senior career at Tranmere following his January move.
But he made just one appearance at the start of February before suffering a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the rest of the campaign.
