Alan Hutton has been left raving over Jeff Hendrick potentially joining Newcastle United after his exit from Burnley this summer.
The former Aston Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the central midfielder is exactly the sort of player who would thrive under Steve Bruce.
The Guardian report that the Magpies are set to win the race for the 28-year-old after he was allowed to leave Turf Moor on a free transfer.
Football Insider revealed back in July that Manchester United were considering a shock move for the midfielder after he rejected a new contract at Turf Moor.
However, Newcastle could win the race for his capture and Hutton insists it would be a fantastic signing for Bruce and his men.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’d (Bruce) be over the moon with that, I think he’s been a top-quality player – it was touted that AC Milan were interested.
“I think he’s been a great player for Burnley, he would definitely fit into the way Steve Bruce likes to play and I think Steve Bruce has got an eye for a player – he can see how he’s going to fit in.
“He would definitely fit the bill at Newcastle and the way they’re heading at the moment.”
Hendrick has a total of 122 Premier League appearances under his belt, as well as 54-caps for the Republic of Ireland.
He played 27 times for Burnley last season, primarily as a right-sided midfielder.
