Tottenham have opened talks with teen sensation Troy Parrott about a new contract, Football Insider can reveal.
The highly rated centre-forward only signed his current deal with Spurs on his 17th birthday in February.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club are so keen to tie Parrott down they are working on securing him to a long-term agreement.
This comes after Parrott was handed his Republic of Ireland debut in last night’s 3-1 friendly win over New Zealand.
The teenager is regarded as one of the best centre-forwards in his age group in Europe and has already made his Tottenham debut back in September.
Mauricio Pochettino has spoken publicly of his admiration of Parrott and conviction that he can establish himself in the Spurs team in the future.
The Argentine has given the green light for new international to get a long-term deal to replace his first professional contract, penned only nine months ago.
He has scored prolifically for club and country at youth-team level, including the Under-23s, but there is a strong sense he has already outgrown that level.
Football Insider revealed in April that Bayern’s German rivals RB Leipzig had set their sights on Parrott while there has also been interest from Bayern Munich and clubs in Italy and Spain.
The Dublin-born Republic of Ireland youth international joined the north Londoners in the summer of 2017 after being a prolific goalscorer in his homeland.
