Noel Whelan has ripped into Tottenham defender Serge Aurier after appearing to breach lockdown rules for a third time.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker has branded the 27-year-old as “disrespectful” and “beyond stupid” after he posted a picture of himself getting a haircut despite the guidelines over social distancing.
In a statement relayed by the BBC, Spurs say they are “investigating the circumstances and will deal with the incident appropriately.”
The Ivorian has already found himself in hot water twice for breaching social distancing guidelines, first for posting a video of him jogging with a friend and then for training with teammate Moussa Sissoko.
Whelan has blasted the Spurs defender for his behaviour, insisting he has disrespected not only the club but the UK public as well.
Whelan told Football Insider: “Once is a joke, twice is a bit of a p*** take and three times is just disrespectful, not just to the club but to everybody in general, the general public.
“Why do they feel they are above and beyond the government guidelines and rules? I do not understand. These days you buy players who are intelligent – to me, that is just absolute dumb.
“To actually get a haircut, that’s one thing, but to post it, how thick do you need to be? You get that from five-year-olds. In fact my seven-year-old would have a better idea not to do that if you’re not allowed to do something.
“To post it for everyone to see what a fantastic hairstyle you’ve got, well, that to me goes beyond stupid.”
Aurier has had a mixed time at Tottenham since his move from PSG, with a number of erratic displays at right-back.
He has been a regular under Jose Mourinho this season, with a total of 33 appearances across all competitions.
In other Tottenham news, a big-name player has been tipped to sign a new contract deal after initially rejecting the club’s offer.
