Exclusive: Tottenham plot sale of 22yo international after U-turn, Bent reacts: Go now...
Darren Bent claims it has been a case of “wrong place, wrong time” for Tottenham defender Juan Foyth as he faces a summer exit.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Argentina international has struggled due to other players’ dazzling performances.
As revealed by Football Insider, Spurs are set to tell the 22-year-old to find a new club this summer after blocking his departure in January.
The U-turn comes after Foyth has made just 32 appearances in three seasons, playing as both a centre-back and makeshift full-back.
Bent suggests that the form of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Kieran Trippier has made it almost impossible for the former Estudiantes man to get a run of form going.
Bent told Football Insider: “Do you know what it is? I think it’s a case of wrong place, wrong time.

“He came to Spurs at a time where, to be fair, Vertonghen and Alderweireld were playing really well together, fantastically well defensively, so he was never was going to get in there.
“At right-back they had Kieran Trippier, he was playing, an international playing really well for England and for Spurs so he kind of had to slot in when people weren’t really playing.
“He eventually got his chance and he was in and out, we hadn’t seen the best of him. Then obviously they bought in Davinson Sanchez and for whatever reason it hasn’t really clicked for him.
“The same thing happened to me at Spurs, I signed when there were already three strikers there and you can never really find your feet, you never really get the opportunity.
“For himself, he’s probably thinking it’s for the best. Mourinho would probably agree with him – go somewhere else, start again and rebuild.”
