Tottenham are set to terminate Kazaiah Sterling’s season-long loan deal at Doncaster Rovers in January, Football Insider can reveal.
The striker, 21, joined the League One side in August on a deal running for the whole campaign, but he has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider the club have reached an agreement with Doncaster to end Sterling’s loan at the midway point.
The Premier League giants were hoping that the forward would play regularly and get crucial senior experience under his belt.
But the England youth international Sterling has made just four appearances in all competitions, only one of which was in the starting XU, since his arrival in the north-east.
He scored his only goal in the EFL Trophy against Lincoln City, has not featured since September and is looking to move on.
Rovers, in turn, are willing to send Sterling back to Tottenham so they can free up space in their squad to make new signings in the January transfer window.
Sterling spent the second half of last season on loan Sunderland, where he scored one goal in eight substitute appearances .
He could go out on loan again in January as he is unlikely to break into Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans at Spurs.
Sterling has made just two senior Tottenham appearances and has a contract at his boyhood club that runs until the summer of 2021.
