Darren Bent has tipped Tottenham manager to snub Dele Alli from the starting XI for the club’s home clash against West Ham.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists it would be harsh to see any of the forward-thinking players axed to make way for the 24-year-old on Tuesday.
Alli missed Friday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United through suspension but will be available for when the Hammers visit north London.
However, Bent believes the England superstar will have to settle for a place on the bench rather than an immediate return to the starting XI.
“It’s going to be an interesting one because I think he might go with the same team,” Bent told Football Insider.
“I think Bergwijn, he’s going to play after his goal and his performance, Harry Kane, he’s not going to drop him, Son, you’re not going to drop him, so the next one is Lamela.
“You’d have to say Lamela played really, really well and to be fair, Lo Celso didn’t even start. I think Lamela might have to wait and wait.
“I think it would be a little bit unfair if Lamela was to come out. Every player deserves a fair crack and Lamela hasn’t at times hasn’t covered himself in glory which is why he hasn’t been a regular but when he does play well, I think he’s earned the right to get another go.”
Alli has played 35 times across all competitions for Spurs this season, with nine goals and six assists under his belt.
Mourinho started Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks in the midfield on Friday, with Lamela, Son, Bergwijn and Kane making up the front four.
