Paul Robinson claimed it would be an “unbelievable deal” for Tottenham if they swapped Tanguy Ndombele for Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo this summer.
The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested Umtiti could be the answer to Spurs’ defensive woes this season and would not hesitate in taking the 26-year-old.
According to Sky Sports, Barcelona are keen to bolster their midfield with the addition of Ndombele and have offered the Lilywhites centre-half Umtiti and right-back Semedo in return.
The La Liga giants are pursuing swap deals this summer as they feel the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Ndombele has endured a difficult first season in north London following his club-record transfer.
The central midfielder was substituted at half-time and then publicly criticised by Jose Mourinho in the wake of Spurs’ last Premier League fixture – a 1-1 draw at Burnley.
When asked by Football Insider if he would welcome a swap for either Barca player, Robinson said: “Umtiti would be outstanding for Spurs. If Barcelona are willing to let him go as part of a deal I think he would be a great signing for Tottenham. Experienced, top-class defender.
“They have struggled at the back this year and have conceded too many goals and they are goals they should not concede.
“If Umtiti is available I would take him, without a shadow of a doubt.
“Semedo or Umtiti would be an unbelievable swap deal and it would excite Spurs fans.”
World Cup winner Umtiti has struggled with injuries this campaign and been limited to just 16 appearances in all competitions.
A deal would see the defender link up with his France international teammate and Spurs club captain Hugo Lloris.
In the latest Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that Spurs mainstay has rejected a new contract and is starting to learn a new language as exit nears.
