Watford are lining up a move to sign Germany defender Marvin Plattenhardt, Football Insider understands.
Watford are understood to be in advanced talks with Hertha Berlin over a deal, but they need to convince the player to move to Vicarage Road.
Watford have held a long-term interest in Plattenhardt and tried to sign the full-back last summer.
Left-back has been a problematic position for Watford and a club source has told Football Insider that they are ready to seal a last-gasp move for Plattenhardt before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday.
The 27-year-old was part of Germany’s World Cup squad last summer and he has won six caps for his country.
Plattenhardt has been with Hertha Berlin since joining from Nurnberg in 2014 and he has earned himself a reputation as a free-kick specialist in the Bundesliga.
He made 25 appearances for the German side last season, scoring two goals.
In other Watford news, the club is set to sign Premier League big name after terms agreed.
