West Ham want to sign Victor Wanyama from Tottenham in the January transfer window, Football Insider can reveal.

The Hammers are keen to take advantage of the Kenya international's fringe status at Spurs as they look to bolster their squad in the winter window.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the West Ham recruitment team have shortlisted Wanyama as they look to bring in central midfield reinforcements.

The former Southampton player was a key man at Tottenham in his first season at the club, when he was the regular partner for Mousa Dembele as the team finished second in the Premier League.

But a serious knee injury sidelined him for much of last season and Wanyama has struggled to win back his place in Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The 27-year-old has made just five appearances this season and is yet to start a league match.

In further good news for West Ham ahead of Wednesday's showdown against Spurs in the League Cup, Marko Arnautovic is in line to return for the second fixture between the two clubs within a fortnight.
