West Ham playmaker Joe Powell is in advanced talks to join Burton Albion, Football Insider can reveal.

The 21-year-old rising star is in line to seal a move to Nigel Clough's League One side after failing to break into the Hammers senior team.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club have agreed a deal for Powell to join Burton permanently.

The London giants have accepted a bid for the attacking midfielder from the third-tier side and he is in line to complete a move in the coming days.

The fee will be a nominal one as the youngster is out of contract at West Ham in the summer.

Powell has made it clear to the Hammers hierarchy he needs regular senior football to ignite his senior career.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Northampton Town, where he made six starts among 10 appearances for the club.

The number 10 returned to his parent club in the summer and has been a mainstay of their Under-23s again this season.

Powell has made 16 appearances for the development side, scoring six goals and supplying three assists.

In total, the attacking starlet has made 64 appearances for the Irons' Under-23s, which have yielded 14 goals and 13 assists.

Powell is set to follow fellow Irons young guns Nathan Holland and Conor Coventry to an EFL club, although the other two made loan moves.
