West Ham are set to submit a new bid for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon after being encouraged by Wolves pulling out of the race to sign him, Football Insider understands.
The Hammers and crisis-hit Newcastle United are the two main Premier League clubs most willing to offer the Venezuela international an instant return to the top flight.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club are preparing a fresh offer worth up to £14million for Rondon after their opening bid was rejected.
Rondon has a £16.5million release clause in his Baggies contract but West Ham are likely to once again bid below that figure as they look to take advantage of the altered market for his signature.
Newcastle are without a manager after Rafael Benitez’s exit last month and they are about to sell one of their star players, Ayoze Perez, to Leicester City.
Rondon is expected to leave West Brom on a permanent basis this summer after they failed to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
He had a an impressive season-long loan at Newcastle, scoring 12 goals from 33 matches in all competitions and winning the club’s Player of the Season award.
In other West Ham news, it can be REVEALED that a first-team talent has told the club he is ready to quit this summer.
