Exclusive: Whelan claims Leeds midfielder won't be at club next season after reveal
Noel Whelan believes Leeds United may give promising midfielder Mateusz Bogusz the green light to leave on loan this summer.
The former Leeds striker and lifelong fan of the club, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests the 18-year-old could be shipped off for next season after publicly voicing his frustrations at Elland Road.
Asked by Polish sports news outlet Weszlo if he had looked at going out on loan, the 18-year-old revealed he had considered it after growing “angry” with his lack of action at Leeds.
However, the midfielder revealed the club had chosen not to let him leave Elland Road and instead kept him as backup for the senior side this season.
Having already blasted the teenager for his comments about a lack of playing time, Whelan believes the Whites may give the green light for him to head out temporarily this summer.
“I’m sure they’ve got big plans for most of their young players because they’ve excelled, especially last season and this season,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“They’ve done very well, everyone’s given themselves a fighting chance to try and break into the first team but you can’t push the fact, you can’t push your way in there.
“Now there might be a loan that comes up this year and after this, the club might go: ‘Well yeah, actually, after this you can go.'”
Bogusz has just one first-team appearance under his belt at Leeds after joining from Ruch Chorzow in January 2019.
He played the full 90 minutes in the League Cup clash against Stoke City earlier this season while he featured as an unused substitute for the opening four games in the Championship.
In other Leeds United news, Whelan warns there “will be tears” as an EFL chief delivers a promotion update.
