Noel Whelan insists more teams will be surprised after Kyle Walker admitted he was shocked by the intensity of Leeds United.
The former Leeds striker and boyhood fan of the club, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the Whites’ rivals will struggle to match Marcelo Bielsa’s men in terms of their fitness and pressure this season.
Speaking to Andros Townsend on ITV’s Football Football Show, Walker confessed that he “couldn’t believe” how Leeds were playing in their “incredible” 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Rodrigo’s first goal for the club cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opener in what was an enthralling tie between the two sides.
Whelan has lauded Bielsa’s men for keeping the likes of Walker quiet and insists there will be more teams who struggle to cope this season.
Asked if he thought a lot of Premier League sides were in for a shock against Leeds, Whelan told Football Insider: “They are indeed.
“I was saying during the commentary when I watched Man City, the best full-back in that team is Kyle Walker and the amount of times he gets forward into those final-third positions, he never really did it once in the game against Leeds United because he was being pushed back so much.
“He’s right, it was like a basketball match – it was: ‘You have a go, we’ll have a go,’ but we will surprise some teams, we really will. We deserved a little bit more than a point, quite frankly.”
Walker told ITV: “It’s like basketball, seriously, I couldn’t believe it. Say Raheem (Sterling) was playing on the left and he goes over to the right, their right-back is going over with him.
“It’s incredible. I think they’ve got a system that works and to achieve what they’ve achieved in the Championship and then doing it in the Premier League as well.”
