Exclusive: Wolves set to sign left-sided rising star in another deadline-day deal

Wolves are closing in on the signing of Dagenham and Redbridge left-back Liam Gordon, Football Insider understands.

The 20-year-old has caught the eye at Dagenham over the past 18 months and Wanderers are now ready to offer him a surprise move to the Premier League.

A Wolves source told Football Insider that the club has held extensive talks over a deal for Gordon and it is almost complete.

The Midlands giants see Gordon as a potential star in the making, and the 20-year-old is likely to link up with the U23s setup at Molineux before pushing for a place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team plans.

A number of Football League clubs have been making regular checks on Gordon, but the Premier League outfit have moved to steal a march on their rivals by agreeing a deal with the non-league side for the defender.

The youngster has eight appearances to his name in the National League so far this term, after rising up through the ranks with his boyhood club.

The attacking full-back has also impressed on the international front with Guyana, and shone at last summer’s Gold Cup.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier today, Wolves have also agreed a deal with Rochdale for 17-year-old full-back Luke Matheson, who scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford back in September.

The club have been busy reshaping their U23s set-up and are placing greater emphasis on signing exciting young talent for the future, while Matheson, for his part, will return to his boyhood team on loan until the end of the season before returning to Molineux next term.
