Arsenal are exploring a £50milllion double swoop for Paris Saint-Germain duo Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot,

Football Insider

sources understand.

Arsene Wenger wants two new signings before the transfer window closes next Tuesday and has turned his sights to Paris after top summer target Karim Benzema distanced himself from a move to Emirates Stadium. Sources have told

Football Insider

that Wenger is in the market for a world-class centre-forward and a central midfielder. The Arsenal manager

is keen on enticing £40million-rated Cavani from France as well as his team-mate Rabiot, 20, who is on the fringes of the PSG team and in the £10million bracket.

Wenger would still like to land Benzema from Real Madrid but the striker is not convinced that Arsenal would represent a good career move and quelled talk of a transfer on Monday via his Twitter account. It remains to be seen if Cavani is a more realistic prospect. The 28-year-old has not yet scored in three league games in the new campaign but finished last season with a flurry of goals to leapfrog Zlatan Ibrahimovic and end as PSG’s top scorer with 31 goals, including 18 in Ligue 1. In total, the Uruguay international has scored 57 goals in 99 matchess since his £53million move from Napoli two years ago. He is believed to be open to leaving the French champions but he has three years remaining on his contract and PSG are likely to be reluctant to sell him given his recent form and the fact Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reaching the end of his career.

It is likely to be easier for Arsenal to sign Cavani's team-mate Rabiot, a France Under-21 international who has been closely monitored by a number of Premier League clubs in recent years.

He has grown frustrated at a lack of game time with the Ligue 1 champions, starting just one of their three league matches this season.

Despite signing a five-year contract last year Rabiot’s mum Veronique, also his agent, has revealed he is keen on leaving the club this summer in order to play more regularly.
