Expert 'disgusted' by what he's seen from Chelsea star Edouard Mendy

Edouard Mendy should take the blame for West Ham not being awarded a late equaliser against Chelsea.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial scenes at the end of the game.

As shown on Sky Sports (4 September), Cornet looked to have equalised late on for the Irons at Stamford Bridge.

However, on the advice of VAR, referee Andy Madley ruled that Jarrod Bowen had fouled Mendy in the build-up to the goal.

This left the Hammers fuming with David Moyes, as quoted by Sky Sports (3 September) calling the decision “scandalous” and “absolutely rotten”.

Kenny blames Mendy for making a meal out of his “injury”.

“I agree with Moyes,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I thought it was a ridiculous decision. At one point Mendy is holding his arm then he is holding his chest, he didn’t know what to do.

“The finish was unbelievable by the way. It’s just disappointing that we are having to discuss this when it is clearly not a foul and it should be a goal.

“West Ham have to be disgusted coming away without a draw. The worst this is that these teams are putting in so much hard work and spending a lot of money.

“Then they are getting punished with these silly mistakes and everyone can see they are clear errors by VAR and the referees. “I feel for the clubs and the players and the fans, it’s just not fair.”

West Ham are next in action against Newcastle United on Sunday (11 September).

They currently sit 18th in the Premier League.
