Expert issues 'huge' Steven Gerrard claim after what he's seen at Aston Villa
Aston Villa may have turned the corner after their draw with Man City last weekend.
That’s according to former Villains boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s recent performances.
Aston Villa drew 1-1 against last season’s champions on Saturday (3 September) – and could have sealed all three points if Philippe Coutinho’s goal wasn’t wrongly ruled out.
The Midlands giants remain 17th in the table following the result after just one win from their first six league games of the new campaign.
McLeish is backing Villa to win their next game after securing the “incredible” result.
“That is a huge result for Stevie and his coaching staff,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“They will have been pulling their hair out through the whole week, thinking about how they are going to stop this machine called Manchester City.
“When you see the performance they gave, the whole team, there was a fair bit of work done by everyone.
“The criticism was everywhere after their start to the season and people were even suggesting Gerrard could go.
“That was incredible considering the way City were going. Nobody would have bet against Man City winning that game.
“Some players will go to another level of self-belief and it gives them so much going into that next game.
“That next game is hugely important for them, they need to start putting more than one point on the board.”
