Expert lambasts Richards over 'grossly unacceptable' Tottenham comments

Micah Richards’ comments on Arsenal’s request to postpone their weekend game with Tottenham were “grossly unacceptable”.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Arsenal had their request for postponement granted by the Premier League after the club cited a lack of players due to injury, suspension, Covid and players being away at AFCON.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday coverage (16 January) Richards claimed Arsenal have “done nothing wrong” and suggested other clubs would have done the same in their position.

Wenham labelled these quotes as a “pathetic” attempt to garner support from Arsenal fans.

“For Micah Richards to come out and say what he said was ridiculous,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He was quite clearly trying to garner support from Arsenal fans, it was pathetic.

“He’s clearly just trying to be a different voice on this issue when everyone else is rightly condemning Arsenal.

“He was seizing the opportunity to just be the one who is different about Tottenham. For me, that was grossly unacceptable.

“There should be no defending that and I have largely been happy with the response from journalists and pundits.

“But what Richards said was just baffling and he isn’t helping the situation at all.”

Arsenal have four players at AFCON and Martin Odegaard tested positive for Covid on 13 January.

Tottenham have four games in hand on some Premier League sides after their most recent postponement.

In other news, a pundit has claimed Tottenham could seal ‘signing of the summer’ after Sky transfer update.
