Expert makes big claim on Postecoglou quitting Celtic after Tottenham twist

Frank McAvennie has insisted Ange Postecoglou will stay at Celtic until he makes the club a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Postecoglou will be focusing firstly on completing a “huge” treble before trying to transform the Glasgow club into a strong competitor in Europe.

The Australian has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the course of an incredibly successful season in Scotland.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (19 May), the 57-year-old is one of the three names on the most recent shortlist for the Tottenham manager’s job.

Arne Slot and Ruben Amorim are the other two names being considered as Spurs search for a permanent successor to Antonio Conte.

Postecoglou joined Celtic in 2021 from Yokohoma F. Marinos and has enjoyed an incredibly successful spell that’s seen his side secure back to back league titles and move to within one game of a historic eighth domestic treble.

McAvennie insisted Postecoglou’s work at Celtic is not done.

I think he is there for a couple of years,” he told Football Insider.

Getting the treble is a huge feat, doing it at any club, so that is what he will be wanting to do. He wants to take this club to the Champions League and make an impact like we used to.

We beat Barcelona, Real Madrid in the past and he will want to do that again.

He will want to make Celtic Park this great fortress that people don’t want to come to.
