Expert: Man City have triggered seventh Tottenham signing amid Destiny Udogie latest

Man City have forced Tottenham into the signing of Destiny Udogie.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The Athletic (4 August), revealed Tottenham are in talks with Udinese over Italy Under 21 left-back Udogie.

The defender would be loaned back to the Italian side if Spurs complete the signing.

The Telegraph report the deal could cost Antonio Conte’s side as much as £21million.

Wenham claims Man City’s hunt for a new left-back has prompted Tottenham to sign Udogie ahead of schedule.

“I get the impression that Man City and a few others were watching this very, very closely,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s one of those where you have to move now or you are going to lose the player, basically. I feel like Tottenham have been forced into an early move.

“I think they heard from agents or whoever that Man City were going to make a move if Tottenham don’t get it done.

“City are screaming out for a left-back. They sold Zinchenko under the assumption they were getting Cucurella, that is now not happening.

“I don’t know if Tottenham have said they will pay now and loan him back because they want the player and he’s on the shortlist.

“Maybe he wasn’t on the shortlist for this summer but he’s one we’re looking at. Perisic is 33 with a two-year contract.

“Tottenham are now signing someone for the future and someone who is reported to be making his full Italy debut in their next squad.”
