Expert: Premier League club has set sights on signing Celtic star Jota

Celtic star Jota will be attracting Premier League interest after his impressive start to the season.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Portuguese attacker’s form.

Jota, 23, has started life as a permanent Celtic player in sensational fashion, registering four goals and four assists in seven total appearances this season.

He scored the pick of the bunch as the Hoops beat Rangers 4-0 last weekend (3 September) but blanked against Real Madrid on Tuesday (6 September).

McLeish claims Premier League sides will now be taking notice of Jota.

“Honestly, I couldn’t give that guy any higher praise,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“He has been a revelation. When I first saw him coming on the scene last season I thought he was a bit fluttery, he looked a little bit lightweight.

“Then you saw the end product over a whole year and a bit now, I can’t believe the Portuguese actually sold him for that price.

“I’m sure that clubs in England will be looking at that player. When Rangers and Celtic are doing well, the manager gets looked at but the players get looked at as well.

“The standout players, Jota is standing out an absolute mile.”

Jota initially joined Celtic on loan from Benfica in the summer of 2021.

During his first spell at Parkhead, he scored 13 goals in 40 total appearances.
