Expert: Rising stars told 'don't sign for Tottenham' after 'embarrassing' development

Youngsters are being told to not sign for Tottenham after the stagnation of their youth stars.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham were unable to send out any of their young stars in the final weeks of the transfer window, with Nile John and Brooklyn Lyons-Foster notable players who will remain at Hotspur Way.

Wenham has been left fuming by this development.

“Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, there was interest in taking him on loan, why has he not gone out?” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Nile John, clubs came in and asked about him and he’s been stopped from going out on loan.

“I’m just very frustrated by this stagnation of promising players. We used to be very good at this. It wasn’t that long ago that I was at Elland Road watching Yeovil play Leeds.

“Yeovil had some Tottenham players on loan that season. Ryan Mason, Andros Townsend and Steven Caulker.

“They all went on to be full England internationals. It’s not just players in the first team. It doesn’t have to be a Skipp or a Tanganga.

“It can be someone who make two or three appearances for Tottenham but because they have been on loan in the football league, playing with actual players, you can get good money for them.

“Ten years on from that scenario I have just talked about, we are letting players like Marcus Edwards leave for free, Dilan Markanday leave for half a million, Kion Etete for nothing.

“The players are not developing and it is not fair on the players. I put a tweet out the other day about this and it was noticeable to see agents quote tweeting it and basically saying to young players ‘don’t join Tottenham’.

“I mean that is embarrassing. I just hope and pray there is a change.”
