Expert: Sergio Reguilon and 'cult hero' to be sold by Tottenham as deal all but done

Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal will be sold by Tottenham as the club near another defensive signing.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Spurs confirmed earlier on 31 May that the Perisic had signed a two-year deal and will officially join at the beginning of July when his Inter Milan contract expires.

On 10 June, this site revealed Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.

A recruitment source told Football Insider that Spurs are closing in on a breakthrough in a deal worth £20million.

With one full-back already singed and another likely to arrive soon, Wenham claims Reguilon and Royal will make way.

“For me, it’s Reguilon and Royal,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s been unlucky for Emerson because he showed some good form towards the end of the season. He has become a cult hero.

“Look at the video from when he was waving the flare around after we beat Arsenal. He also improved a lot.

“Sadly, for him, I think it comes down to the fact that Matt Doherty counts as home-grown because he joined Wolves at such a young age.

“Obviously Royal counts as a foreign player and I think that is the reason he will go. His stock is quite high in La Liga so maybe something can be done there.”

Royal signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2021 from Barcelona.

He made 41 appearances for the club in all competitions.
