Expert: 'Smart money' is on Liverpool to sign Jude Bellingham after £103m update

The “smart money” is on Liverpool in the race for Jude Bellingham’s signature.

That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s future.

According to German outlet Sport Bild (29 June) Borussia Dortmund have put a price tag of around £103million on the 19-year-old.

The Mirror reported (16 June) that Liverpool will hold off on a move for Bellingham until next summer as opposed to in the current window.

The Reds have an ageing midfield and could look to replace players such as Jordan Henderson, 32, or Thiago, 31, over the coming years.

McLeish claims Liverpool could announce the deal out of nowhere next summer after the club’s recent trend of letting little news leak in the run-up to announcing a transfer.

“We are speculating on Bellingham, the smart money is on Liverpool,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The thing is, we will just see on the day whether it is Bellingham who arrives on the day. That’s how they operate.

“The way Liverpool do their business, they don’t public about anything. That’s the way transfer should be done. We always tried to do that.

Bellingham signed for Dortmund in 2020 from Birmingham for a fee of around £23million.

The English international played 43 games for Dortmund during the 2021-22 season, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists.

In other news, one expert has told Football Insider that “integrity” is at stake as Jurgen Klopp is caught up in a Liverpool-Everton controversy.
