Expert: Tottenham have already identified 'perfect' Lucas Moura replacement

Wilfried Zaha would be the perfect replacement for Lucas Moura if he ends up leaving Tottenham in January.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Thursday (23 December), Wenham, speaking to Football Insider, claimed Moura could be on the verge of leaving the club after not featuring in any of the recent friendly games.

Moura has been limited to a support role this season, only starting two games for the club in all competitions.

Sources told Football Insider on 13 December that Tottenham are interested in signing Zaha, 30, on a free transfer next summer.

Wenham claims a deal for Zaha could be fast-tracked if Moura departs in January.

“I would only be happy with Lucas going if we got a replacement in,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“There is no point in making the squad weaker. We need to be doing the opposite in January and making this squad as strong as it can possibly be.

“If you are looking for replacements, look no further than Zaha. He wouldn’t need time to adapt, he’s been playing in this league for years.

“He is in great form this season too. That’s an example of us getting stronger, losing Lucas but gaining Zaha. I would be very happy with that.

“I think Zaha would be the perfect replacement. He’s nearly out of contract, he probably wants to move to a big club. It’s ideal.”

Tottenham return to league action against Brentford on Boxing Day.

They sit fourth in the Premier League after winning nine games before the World Cup.
