Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is capable of being a number one at another Premier League club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England shot-stopper said it would take "a big transfer fee" to get the 23-year-old out of Anfield though.

Kelleher impressed as Liverpool's number two last season and starred in the League Cup final, which Jurgen Klopp's side won on penalties.

According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (3 July), the Reds want to keep hold of the goalkeeper for as long as possible.

The Republic of Ireland international has four years remaining on his contract on Merseyside.

When asked by Football Insider if Kelleher should exit Liverpool in search of regular first-team football, Robinson said: "You can only accept the role as a number two for so long.

"Is he happy just playing in the cups and the occasional game in the Champions League? It is ok when you are younger, you can accept it. But when you have played in big games and had success the want and the will to be a number one will be there.

"To be the number two goalkeeper at Liverpool is fantastic. But when you look at Alisson and his age, when is Kelleher going to get his opportunity to be the first choice? It is not going to be for a long time.

"It will be down to Kelleher's personal will and ambition. He might want to move on to realise that.

"If he does decide to leave, it will be for a big transfer fee. Liverpool will demand it. It would be to another Premier League club because he is at that level.

"The situation suits Liverpool very well at the moment but as soon as he rocks the boat there will be a problem."
