Tottenham should tell “the Premier League’s best player” Son Heung-Min to write his own cheque – to prevent him quitting for Liverpool or one of football’s elite clubs.
That is according to ex-Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley about the Spurs sensation following his blistering start to the season.
Jose Mourinho has revealed that the north Londoners are working on agreeing a new long-term deal with the South Korea sensation.
Football Insider understands Tottenham are offering Son a lucrative new deal worth £200,000-a-week and, in the latest twist, owner Joe Lewis has given the green light for “mammoth” pre-January deal.
His current deal runs until 2023 but the club hierarchy want to tie him down for a number of years beyond that.
“Son is the best player in the Premier League, for me, by a country mile,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider, in what is a fairly extraordinary claim despite the player’s excellence.
“If I was Tottenham I’d be putting down on a contract on whatever he wants, just to get him signed on because he can go to any club in the world.
“At any club in the world he’d be starting, we’re talking Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona he’s that good.
“Spurs will know that, Jose will know that, Daniel Levy will know that so I’m sure they’ll tie
him down and he’ll be one of the highest earners for sure.”
Son’s reputation is at an all-time high following his sensational start to the new campaign.
The 89-times international has already banged in 10 goals from 12 matches in all competitions as well as supplied five assists.
In seven Premier League games, Son has eight goals, topping the charts alongside Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
