Fabio Silva may have played last Wolves game as new details emerge - pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Wolves are “doing the right thing” as Fabio Silva prepares to depart to Anderlecht on loan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 19-year-old has been a “bad signing” for the Molineux side.

According to the Express and Star (8 July), Anderlecht are set to take Silva on a season-long loan and will pay his wages in full for the duration of his spell at the club.

The report claims the youngster will sign a one-year contract extension at Wolves prior to completing his summer move – meaning his deal will run until June 2026.

Silva cost the Midlands club a reported club-record £35million fee in 2020 but has managed just four goals in 62 games for the club.

Whelan suggested the Portugal Under-21 international may be struggling to adapt after making the move to England.

When asked if he had seen anything to suggest the starlet could be an eventual success in the Premier League, he told Football Insider: “Not really.

“Sometimes when you pay big money for a player it works, sometimes it doesn’t. This was probably a bad signing.

“It hasn’t worked out – hence why they’re trying to get rid. Some players just find the Premier League very difficult or struggle with moving to another country.

“I think Wolves are doing the right thing by offloading him.”

Wolves finished 10th in the Premier League in the 2021-22 season.

Bruno Lage’s side have completed a permanent move for Hwang Hee-chan this summer- their only transfer incoming.
