'Fabulous' McGregor predicted by English pundit to help Celtic wrest title from Rangers

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Celtic captain Callum McGregor for ‘”taking on the mantle” since Scott Brown’s departure.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Everton skipper claimed McGregor, 28, has led by example this season with his “excellent” performances on the pitch.

The skipper played the full 90 minutes on Thursday night (2 December) as Celtic secured a 1-0 win over Hearts at Parkhead.

It keeps them within striking distance of leaders Rangers, who are four points clear of their bitter rivals after 15 matches apiece played.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of McGregor’s captaincy, Campbell said: “Callum McGregor is a fabulous player.

“Scott Brown passed the armband onto him. Brown is a Celtic legend, a proper captain and leader so there was a lot to live up to. McGregor has taken the mantle and excelled.

“He is an experienced player who is used to leading. Part of leading a team is putting in performances and fair play to him, he’s been excellent.

“He will be vital for them if they are to wrangle the title back off Rangers. I have been really impressed with him this season.”

As pictured by club media before the win over Aberdeen last Sunday (28 November), McGregor and his predecessor Scott Brown paid tribute to Celtic legend Bertie Auld, who sadly passed away on November 14th.

McGregor had scored in that match – his second goal of the campaign.

In all competitions this season he has made 24 appearances.

In other news, Dr Dan has claimed Celtic are in line for ‘£10million’ windfall with a seven-figure sum already secured.
