Sunderland have been linked with a move for Celtic left-back Calvin Miller, according to a report.
Football news site Teamtalk claims that the recently-relegated to League One Black Cats are interested in taking the 20-year-old on loan for next season.
The report goes on to claim that the Hoops are set to give Miller a new contract then loan him out to get some regular game time.
Miller only made four appearances for the Bhoys last season as he found his path to the first-team blocked by Hoops star player Kieran Tierney.
Football Insider verdict
This move doesn’t seem likely to happen unless the Bhoys are ready to bring in another left-back this summer. They can’t allow Calvin Miller to leave unless another player is brought in to give Kieran Tierney a break, as he is in danger of playing too much football. There is no doubt that a loan move would do Miller good, as the chances of him playing on a regular basis for the Hoops seem remote at best. He has no chance of replacing Tierney in the first-team. But Brendan Rodgers knows that Miller won’t be allowed to leave unless some more players are brought in first. Miller is certainly an interesting player, as he used to be a striker, and it would be intriguing to see where he played for the League one side. But at the moment, the move seems unlikely to happen, and Miller seems set to be Tierney’s Hoops understudy for the foreseeable future.
