Rangers defender Aidan Wilson has agreed the terms of an emergency loan move to Scottish Championship side Dumbarton – and fans have claimed on Twitter it is a great move for the rising star.

The second-tier outfit announced on their official website on Friday that the 19-year-old has completed a temporary transfer from Ibrox.

Dumbarton manager Stevie Aitken is delighted to have secured the signing of a player who has already played for the Rangers first team.

“We are a little short on bodies right now, so Aidan comes in at a good time,” said Aitken, as quoted by the Dumbarton official site. “He’s highly thought of at Rangers and Ian (Durrant) speaks highly of him.”

Ex-Rangers midfielder Durrant used to be on the coaching staff at Ibrox but left the club in 2016 and was appointed as Aitken’s assistant 12 months ago.

He has been the driving force behind a number of Rangers youngsters moving to Dumbarton on loan, including current first-team sensation Ross McCrorie.

Fans of the Light Blues hailed Wilson’s move to the Championship outfit, claiming he is a “real prospect” and a “seriously good player” who has made a “great move”.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The 19-year-old centre-back has made three appearances for the Rangers first-team since Pedro Caixinha handed him his senior debut last May.

Wilson has been at Rangers for his whole career and this is his first loan move away from the club.

The centre-back joins Dumbarton as they sit ninth in the Championship.

He made his debut at right-back as they lost 3-0 against Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

In other Rangers transfer news, it can be revealed that a key first teamer has sensationally asked to leave after the board failed to stick to their promise of giving him a new deal during the transfer window.
